Indian surnames....searching for family?

I doing a bit of amatuer geneology and have stumbled upon the surname Barau, apparantly it is of Indian origin and i was wondering if anyone could enlighten me on this.......i cant seem to find anything on this. Anything would be of great help. Thanks

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: I suspect the spelling could be Barua or Barui. If that's the case, then it is originates from Bengal. They are commonly found in the state of West Bengal in India.
