Position:Home>Genealogy> What are the best genealogical programs to get for my computer?

Question:

What are the best genealogical programs to get for my computer?

I have heard of Legacy but are there others? How would you rate them?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: There are dozens. Which is best for you depends on which country you are in, what your level of computer and genealogical experience is, and what kind of computer you have. I just got 1.2 million hits for "genealogy software reviews" in Yahoo!'s search engine.

Many of the programs have a free two-week trial offer.

In the USA:

If you have a Mac, Reunion is your only "major league" choice. There are others with user bases in the dozens or hundreds.

If you have a PC, Family Tree Maker is the most widely advertised and thus the biggest seller.

I personally like Roots Magic better that FTM. I find it is well-designed and easy to use. Some raves from their site,
