Genealogical question: still trying to trace my great-grandfather's ancestors (and mine)?

I have been looking for a genealogical link to my ancestors prior to my Great-Grandfather, Frederick Edward Von Leue, who arrived in Florida about the turn of the century. Supposedly he came over from Germany, but I haven't been able to find a direct link back over-the-pond yet. There is reason to believe that he may have deliberately changed his name as a draft-dodging method at the time. I've tried all the normal sites I can find. Any suggestions other than hiring a professional genealogist?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Von in a German name is roughly the same as Sir to a Brit. It is inherited, is a difference, but must initially be awarded by the King, Emperor, whatever. Since it is hereditary, check the Almanach de Gotha for the name. If it exists, you will have locale in Germany, Austria, wherever to search. If it does not exist, then you know he did change his name.
