Question:

How to separate two pages stuck together by glue?

I received a very old album and discovered that a few pages have been glued together to "hide" the scribbled messes that a child made at some point.

Also, a previous owner tried to open the bottom right corner of one of the glued pages but stopped for some reason. To my surprise, there is a date written on the bottom right corner of 1881. It looks like it was part of a personal note or letter that someone wrote to the original owner of the album.

The album is small, about the size of a postcard if not wider. Many of the papers easily comes out so it makes scanning the pictures in easy.

I would like to know the safest route in being able to separate the two pages without damaging it. Unfortunately, this child also scribbled over the letter so I'm hoping that if I ever get the pages separated, the damage won't be so bad.

The glue that was used is still white/brownish and is very brittle. The paper is thin - It's not construction paper.

I don't think steam is a good idea when it comes to the ink.
