Question:

Was there a village called Potteringham in Yorkshire?

According to a family history research organisation, my great grandfather was born in the village of Potteringham, Yorkshire. Was there such a place?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Can't find a trace of such a place on the web either, there is a site on GENUKI that shows places in Yorkshire that don't exist anymore.

It could simply be a transcription error. One of my ancestors was listed by familysearch as being in Weston, Hampshire, but on further investigation it turned out to be a completely different Weston. If the source paper record had someone above or below who was born in Yorkshire, and the record did not show a county, the transcriber may just have made an assumption.
