Question:

Did Matthew Farmer buy property and live in St. Charles Co. and pay taxes in the 1830s?

Matthew Farmer might have been my gr gr gr gr grandfather. There may have been more than one person with that name at that time. I am looking for the parents of Samuel B. Farmer b. Va. 1800-1803 and moved to the Flint Hill area of St. Charles Co. Mo.(near Wentzville) in about 1835. I was told that a Matthew Farmer bought property in 1834 in St. Charles Co. and paid taxes on it in 1836. There is a Matthew Farmer with a DAR ref. stating that moved to St. Charles Co.

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Have you any idea what year Matthew died? I have found a reference to a Mrs. Farmer only on the 1840 census. She is listed as being Head of the family. I'm in the UK and have no knowledge of the geography of ST. Charles Co! There seems to be no Matthew listed in Charles co. at that time. These ones are listed as being in Cuivre. Is that anywhere near? There are two males listed: one is under 5, the other is 20-30 years. Unfortunately, they are not identified by name. Mrs Farmer is between 50-60 years. There is also one female aged 20-30.
I've got the following on Samuel..
On the 1840 census he is listed as living in:
Township: Cuivre
County: Saint Charles
State: Missouri
The problem is linking the two together! They are the only Farmers in the area at that time so it does suggest they are related.

Back in 1850, the property was worth 1000, so pretty substantial still! However, on Ancestory it's an incorrectly detailed entry as Samuel D. However, cross-referencing family members with the 1860 census indicates it's still the same family.
The quality of the document copy is poor but I can make out ...
Saml d Farmer
Age: 47
Wife: Francis
Nancy
Patience
Martha
Susan
John

Samuel's information from the 1860 census:

Any use or absolute twaddle?! I have gone off topic a bit but I hope it's of use!
