Question:

How can I find out my birth certificate number?

I've lost my birth certificate but I need the number to apply for a job. I'm not too fussed about having the piece of paper I just need the number ASAP! I was born and live in the UK.

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: I assume you don't live close to where you were born, if you do, visit that Registry Office.

You could do it all on line, but it'll cost.

Initially, you need a reference off the web site 1837online. (I think it's changed it's name but 1837online should still find it).

You'll have to buy credits. Then you search for an initial reference by using your name and your date of birth.

Let's say you were born in Paddington Jan 1970. You'll get to list of births from which you should find the reference to your entry into this cruel world.

You will get a reference like this
Paddington Jan-Mar 1970 Vol 3 Page 349b

On the same site, you can go to a page where you can order a copy of your Birth Cert on line. That'll cost you ⣷. It'll be with you in a few days.
