Help with my family history?

I have been attempting to locate my family history. Every website I have visited gives very limited information and usually ends with the "14-day free trial and only $158 after that".

I'm just wanting some general information and need help finding true "FREE" information

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Talk to your family. Ask questions, ask for stories. Ask your oldest relatives what they remember from the stories they heard when they were a child.

Then start with cemeteries. You can actually learn a lot with a little bit of detective skills. In some places, you may even be able to find a cemetery of just one family with the relatives clearly labeled.

You can also check birth and death records at your local clerk of court (usually near the Sheriff's department in your county's seat).

Websites will only have information if other members of your family have put it there. If you're truly starting from scratch then even if you pay, you won't find much.
