or

German:
Spelling variations of this family name include: List, Lisst, Listmann, Lister (often of English origin), Listl, Listler, Listli, Liste, Listle, Listel and many more.

First found in Silesia and Lausitz, where the name emerged in mediaeval times as one of the notable families of the region.

Some of the first settlers of this family name or some of its variants were: Just Lorentz List, who arrived in Philadelphia in 1741. J. Philip List came in 1751; Johann Georg List in 1754; Carl Christian Friedrich List in 1773.

You should do your family tree if you want to know who you really are. You are the summation of your nearest ancestors genes, not a Lister from 300 years ago. There will be 512 surnames only a few generations out! Just my thinking. Hope this helps, and if you want to learn more, keep asking!!
