If a person's last name is Rich, where does that mean their ancestors are probably from?

I know Rich is typically an English name, but like is it part Irish, French? Also, is there any quick and simple way you could tell the ancestor's professions?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Very hard to say because names often undergo many changes over time. Spellings change to match dialect, and longer names become shorter over time. It could be shortened form of a French name, my intuition is telling me.
