Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: According to the 1930 census, Pearl Campbell is listed as a 38 y/o widow, who lived in Precinct 1, Milton, FL at the time. She rented her home, was 16 at the time of her first marriage. She was born in Florida, her father was born in Alabama, and her mother was born in Pennsylvania. Her children are enumerated as follows: Evelyn (F), age 15; Inez (F), age 12; C.Y. (M), age 9; Elva (M), age 5; Luther (M), age 3.

If we look back to the 1920 census, we find James still alive at that point, being enumerated as a 55 y/o fitter in a ship yard living at 407 B Street, Precinct 32, Pensacola, FL (which he rented), along with his 29 y/o wife Pearl and their children: Ora (F), age 7; Evelyn (F), 4 years 4 months; and Inez, age 2 years 5 months. Also living there was Pearl's father, James, who was a 61 y/o carpenter in the dry docks and married (interestingly NOT widowed or divorced...I wonder where the Missus was at the time). James Campbell was born in Alabama, as were his parents. James Richardson was born in Alabama, as were his parents. My guess is that they were not well off, as they seem to be the only white family in the area, which was highly unusual in the deep South in those days.

Going back to 1910, we find Pearl living with her first husband, Marlin Hartley, in her parents' home in Precinct 1 of Santa Rosa County, FL. Marlin was a 25 y/o laborer at a lumber mill at the time. Pearl had borne 2 children, one of whom survived to that date: Opal, who was 1 year, 10 months old at the time. Pearl's parents are shown as James and Ora Richardson, 55 and 44 y/o in 1910, who had been married for 29 years. As mentioned earlier, Ora was born in Pennsylvania, as were her parents. James was a carpenter. Also residing in their home were Pearl's brothers and sisters: Annie (F), age 23; Jessie (I think...it's hard to read) (M), age 18; Alice (F), age 16; Grace (F), age 10; and Clarence (M), age 6. Annie worked as a saleslady at a dry-goods store.

I hope this helps you. If there was a child born in 1923, he apparently didn't survive until 1930.
