I was wondering how to find out whether or not your grand father has a national indian registry number.?

ok. heres the deal. we know nothing about my mothers family. however...we do know that we are part indian and have found out a little bit more. we would like to find my greatgrandfathers national registry stuff. does anyone have any idea how i can do that and what kind of websites and places i need to go to??
