Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: FamilySearch.org is run by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and is free and is the best. Anything by the LDS Church is free and if they don't have what you are looking for, you can call them and they can send you information on the family names you are looking for, etc. The only problem is, on their site, other companies have horned-in, like "Ancestors.com" and they make you pay. Since the genealogy craze has gotten so hot, court houses all over the world have decided to charge money for their records. Anything to make a buck!!! Rediculous, but we are at their mercy. Definitely start with FamilySearch.org.
