Tracing people?

pls

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: You need to trace backwards from the present. Most people have short-form birth certs (b/c's) which doesn't give much info. Try to get long form b/c if can. Example: Get your grandfather's b/c which shows his place of birth & parent's names. If lucky it will show where his parent's were born & the age of his parents when he was born. Then write to the county's of birth or call them to find out how much they charge. You can find good info on death certificates & marriage records also. Here are some websites: familysearch.org (free), legacy.com (has obituaries & charges up to $3.95 per record), myheritageresearch.com (free to search) & the best one is ancestry.com which charges membership. You have access to US birth, census, marriage, death, immigration & military records. Court, land & probate records. UK census records & birth records.
