Looking for parents of William Donaldson, born 1650 near Philadelphia, Penn. Any help out there?

The records that I have found list him as a mariner. Suspect that he was part of the Scottish colony in what is now New Jersey. This would make sense as where it was is near the City of Philly.

I am a member of Clan Donald, USA and have the services of the Clan Geneologist. He is also stymied on this. I have gotten this far on Ancestory.com by checking out probate records and court documents. He is listed in probate records as being a mariner. Suspect that he was a member of the shortlived Scottish Colony founded in New Jersey prior to the English take over of that colony.
