Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: just an addenum to what mcdomnhal said IF you are a member of a Scottish Clan though blood Marriage or Oath(you can still become a member by pleging yourself to a clan) you are allow to wear the clan Crest(not coat of arms though are for chief himself) these can be found easily on Wikipedia otherwise yes you are out of luck. Look at the link below for more info. General speaking Arms are person to for family . IF there is a Coat of Arms in your family history you may be able to have Lord Lyon or the Garter King of Arms matriculate the arms to you
