Question:

How would one find records kept by american shipbuilding co. in Lorain,OH?

Is there anyway to find records, info kept on or by American Shipbuilding Co. in Lorain,OH, which I believed closed for good in 1981 or 83. Records like employees and boat launches as many great ships came out of there during WW I and WWII, and maybe the people who worked on these boats. Some of my family was employed here for many years and I would like to find out more about their employment at the ship yard. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!

As well, the local Chamber of Commerce, or other business service clubs like the Rotary, Lions Club, etc. may have records who the key company people were. Your city business records may also list the corporation and it's key people. Many libraries also have back copies of telephone books, and many corporations list their key people in their telephone listing. So you may be able to cross reference those names with a modern-day city telephone book and mail them a letter, requesting your information.

I always recommend sending a letter in the mail so that you do not put the contact in an uncomfortable position of trying to decided whether or not they want to talk to you. Instead, send a letter and give a phone number, return address, or email address where they can contact you.
