Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: "erlos" is the Old Saxon word for "men". It is related to the Anglo-Saxon "eorlas" which meant "noblemen", from which we get the English title "Earl".

"Heruli" were an ancient Germanic tribe who's name was derived from the same root.

"Erlo" is still used as a given name in some parts of Germany.

So my guess is that is of German origin.
