Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: I wrote a time travel science fiction novel which was rated merely okay until, on one reader's advice, I punched up a new opening--a conversation between George Washington and Ben Franklin that foreshadowed much of the early plot. After that I immediately got an agent enthusiastically working. I suggest you pick some point in the middle of your story, and create a prolog from it. Something attention getting, like the protagonist being shot or being warned or meeting the love of his/her life or finding a million dollars or learning s/he is heir to the throne. Foreshadowings to attract the reader without revealing too much. So a warning could be obscure as a prolog, but perfectly clearly halfway in.
