Question:

Locating Stenner's across the United States?

this is not a very popular last name so I was looking for any people that might have a distinct relative by the name of Federico Stenner.

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: I ran the name through ssdi, and only came up with 161 entries, so yes, it is not common. I didn't run it through phone directories, since many of the name could be unlisted, and don't forget women who are Stenners by birth but could be under different names.
Just assuming that you can't find "the" one who knows him... can you connect him to a particular state? There also are entries in rootsweb family files, and you can filter to find Stenners who died in Texas, for example. You could then look if there is a pattern of one county or town. Whenever I can narrow down to a town/county where someone died, the next option is to look for obits... maybe he is a son of one of these.
It helps to know an approx. age, in order to know where to concentrate looking for records. If he was born about 1940, it would be useless to search the 1930 or 1920 census.
What I am trying to say, is to use what ever details you might have, to focus your energy on places likely to give results.
