If you had included a name and estimated time/age, I would have tried some of my sources. I looked at your profile, and cannot email you from there. So, stuck with some generic comments.
Search engines are good, there are tons of them. Since living persons have privacy rights, they can also not work. Maybe your dad has died, and is in the social security death index...but possibly under a slightly different name. But, if I knew a county associated with him, I'd check for ALL persons of that surname in that county, and go the next step to obituaries on the chance he is listed in one of those. Many obitiuaries are NOT posted on the internet, but addresses for newspapers and libraries are.
If dad's name is John Smith, you could run it in google. And you know you would get 5 trillion hits. Now, if I know your John Smith was a Marine for instance who came from Kentucky, that would narrow down the hits. You don't need to answer this, but were dad and mom married? It means you should be tracking down marriage and divorce papers. Maybe a brother signed as a witness to the marriage, and he would show up on a search.
In other words, to help you the best, means asking questions, to narrow down WHICH places are most likely to help you (and not all are online).
You can reach me from my profile, I'd really love to help you if I can. But more details are needed.
