Question:

How can I find my uncles military records online?

He fought for the U.S. during World War Two, but I don't what branch of the Armed Forces he was in.

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Bad news, you have to be a son, daughter, spouse or the veteran themself in order to access these records, if he is still alive. Otherwise, contact the national archives in St. Lewis. One other avenue is through Ancestory.com. If your public library subscribes to this site, then you can access your uncle's draft card and if deceased, his military branch and other necessary information at no cost. Then you can get this information from St. Louis. Ancestory.com is not a free service, however, you can get a free 30 day trial and that should be enough to get this information. Once you have the necessary information, contact a Veteran's Service Officer for the necessary forms. You can find these individuals through the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Veterans, Disabled American Veterans, VA Medical Centers and so forth. The records will take about 6-8 weeks to arrive. Good luck. To access the records from Ancestory.com, you will need approximate date of birth, death and where each occurred.
