Position:Home>Genealogy> To do a genology (or record) search for someone born in Germany, whats the name

Question:

To do a genology (or record) search for someone born in Germany, whats the name of the agency.. jugendamt?

Or I've heard Einvohnermeldeamt.

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: The Einwohnermeldeamt is where you register when moving to one place in germany (you have to register). When you don't live there anymore, you deregister (or they deregister you automatically)
So,if they keep an archive, you could try that, but likely they will only have data of persons actually living there.
The place that keeps records on births, marriages and deceases however is the Standesamt, so thats your best bet.
The Jugendamt is responsible for dealing with troublesome children and youths only, i guess they only keep records of children that causend some sort of problem.
Apart from that, you could try church books on who was baptized
and when, especially when that was a long time ago.
None of these offices are centralized, however, so you have to inquire in the respective office of the respective local administration, and i'm sure they don't give out information easily.
