There are some, yes. LDS Family Search is one of the best. The PeopleFinders Web site is really great for living, or deceased and has all kinds of records. Then FreeBMD is sort of hit or miss. SSA will help if you have a relation in the US.

If you are just beginning a family tree, then Family Search is a great place to start. If you have a software package, great, if not you should try to find the $30.00 to buy one. They come with FREE access for a few months to Ancestry trees, which can fill your tree's branches with starter information. There are some software sites below also.
