Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Some of the answers given in the post above are actually villages at some considerable distance from Maidstone.
I lived in Maidstone for 30 years. The districts which I know within or immediately adjoining Maidstone are: Allington, Sandling, Bearsted, Shepway, Barming, Malling, Penenden Heath, Grove Green, Fant, Farleigh, Tovil, Loose, Mangravet, Park Wood, Ringlestone, Coxheath, Senacre, Downswood, Willington, Ware Street, Roseacre, Forstal, Boxley, Madgingford, Ditton, Weavering Street, Aylesford, as well as Maidstone East and Maidstone West, and Maidstone (centre) itself.
Apologies for not putting them in any specific order; I typed them as they came to mind.

PS. (5 hours later). I came back to this answer after discussion with my husband and find Fengirl's comment. I had not missed Ditton or Aylesford, nor would have been likely to since we have relatives in the former and my husband's headquarters are in the latter. They came towards the end of my list as the most prominent in my mind, whilst I had to think about some of the others. I deliberately did not include Wateringbury as it is detached from Maidstone by a fair stretch of countryside (it is a satellite of Malling). I also left out Boughton Monchelsea, Leeds, Langley, Detling and Hollingbourne for similar reasons as they consider themselves quite distinct from Maidstone.
My husband pointed out that although at present some areas are within Maidstone due to the sprawl of urban development since that period, some of the districts may have been autonomous in 1901. Aylesford and Loose are cases at hand as they were entirely separate villages at the time.
My answer was intended to be as comprehensive as possible, so that you had plenty of data to work from for your research, without stretching too far from Maidstone itself. Good luck!
