My wife has pins from DAR. daughters of the American revolution.?

Does anyone know how to identify these things with out having to fork out money? I guess that they were her great grandmothers. Can she get into the group and get grants and stuff for our kids?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: The DAR is a patriotic genealogical society, and one joins by giving certified copies of proofs of descendancy from someone who fought in the American Revolution. If you can tie in with the DAR papers of a relative, it makes it easier and less costly to do.

Any scholarships or other benefits offered by the DAR are open to anyone interested in scholarly research-at least that is my understanding. There are no special grants or "stuff" you get for your kids by becoming a member. If you know where your Revolutionary War ancestor is buried, you can check out and see if there is a special marker for him--if not, I'm sure the local DAR chapter would be glad to make sure one is placed on his grave, and that his name and its location are mentioned in DAR publications. This is about all the benefits that would come to your family from them.
