Question:

Where did the 'Fannie Pack originate from?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: The fanny pack (US), hip pack (Canada), or bum bag (UK, Australia) is a small fabric pouch - which comes in many shapes, sizes and colours - secured with a zipper and worn at the waist by a strap around the hips. Often used by travelers and was more popular during the 1990s. It can be slung either forward, side or to the rear of the wearer and is often considered as utility over fashion.

I know that even though we all speak English on this board that there is a difference in the use of term "Fannie". Fannie Pack is in fact an "American" term and fanny (fannie ) in America can mean one of two things. Fanny can be a slang term for butt, rump, or bum. Fanny can also be a nickname for the woman's name Frances.

I don't know which country the Fannie Pack, Bum bag, or hip pack first appeared in, but I did think it important to define it and explain the american terminology. Blessings to all my worldwide neighbors.
