Question:

Looking for a company to research my family tree, will pay?

I am looking to pay a company to research my family tree. A Co-worker got someone to put a book together that had the family crest, when they came to America, ect. I am looking for just that, to pay a company to research all that for me. FYI my co-worker left so thats why I am asking here. Thanks, and only specific places and companies are useful.

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: You can pay hundreds of dollars to a qualified genealogist or you can spend a little longer and find the information yourself.

There are plenty of companies out there that will offer you a cursory look at your surname and perhaps through in a legitimate ancestor or two, but you'd be surprised what you can dig up on your own.

The longest running free genealogy database on the web is
at http://www.rootsweb.com. At rootsweb you can search other people's family trees for links to yours, information regarding social security numbers, as well as message boards to get into contact with others who share an interest in the surname(s) you are tracing. Rootsweb is such a draw that you will be communiicating with long lost 10th cousins that you didn't know about in no time at all

Cyndi's list http://www.cyndislist.com is the mother of all genealogy websites, developed to provide you with links to as many genealogy sites as possible. It is a good place to start.

http://www.familysearch.org is the LDS website which provides a wealth of information culled by the mormon church on births, deaths, marriages around the globe. This site also offers you a free genealogy database program that you can use to compile your data, no strings attached.

My database currently stands at 35,000+, all from contacts I've made at FREE SITES.
