There seem to be several threads here from people who have Sauls family who were in Cannon Co Tn.

My ancestor was John Henry Sauls b 1824. I don't know who his father was. He and his wife and family show up on the Cannon Co 1850 census.

On the 1840 census there is a John Sauls living next door to a Henry Sauls. Does anyone know anything about these two men?

Any help appreciated! ---Melinda Elmore

Melinda, I am doing research on my husband's family who has Sauls in its ancestry. His direct ancestor is Henry who married Jerucca (?). Henry was born in Rutherford or Cannon County TN in 1801 (Cannon County was part of Rutherford County at one time and I don't know when it became separate); Jerucca(or maybe Jerusha?) was born in NC in 1807.

Henry's parents were John and Barbara(?) Sauls (she may also have been a Sauls). His grandfather was Abraham.
He had an older brother John who married Frances Davenport.

Henry and Jerucca are in the 1840 TN census with following children listed:
Males: William, John, David, Reubin
Females: Caroline, Charity (who married Cornelius Parker, my husband's ancestor), Mary, and an unnamed female "5-10 years old".
elinda, nice to meet you too. As I have found happens many times in family history research, I have benefitted from other researchers who generously shared their information. I received Family Group Sheets on John and Barbara Sauls and on Henry and Jerucca/Jerusha Sauls from Love Pearl (Parker) Yates. She is not in my husband's direct line, but they do have a common ancestor. The actual researcher on these two sheets was Edwin S. Neely who lives in Murfreesboro, TN (or did in 1997). I'm not sure what his connection is, but believe it may be through Henry and Jerucca's daughter Caroline Sauls. He was also the one who provided the 1840 TN census.

It was not my husband you corresponded with and am not sure who it might have been. If it was a descendent of Charity (Sauls) Parker, it might have been Douglas Parker.

Several of the postings indicate the Sauls came from Germany or were Dutch. In 1999 I talked with Gordean Parker about this and he understood some of them came from Salisbury/Salisbury Plains in England. I haven't tried any follow up on that information.

My info is pretty sparse, but hopefully it will help and I can also gain some further information from you or some of the many other Sauls postings I see.
