Position:Home>Genealogy> Origins of the Italian name, "Zerbi"?

Question:

Origins of the Italian name, "Zerbi"?

I would like to know what the origins of the family Italian name "Zerbi" are? Or possibly what this word means in Italian?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Not sure where some of these answers came from (I don't put a lot of stock in the sites that try to give history of names). Zerbi is a gypsy name. It is very well known amongst those of use who have been dealing with gypsy communities. It isn't isolated to just Italy, it also appears throughout Eastern Europe and the Middle East...wherever gypsies have traveled. It's also a name that every hospital on the north side of Chicago knows to call security when the call comes in from Swedish Covenant Hospital that they're transferring a patient by that name to your facility. Everyone from Security to Admitting to the Nursing Director is put on alert and everything is removed from the room before the ambulance arrives. They can strip a room bare in under 10 mins.

Your family may no longer be gypsy, but I'll guarantee they were somewhere back in time.
