Question:

Where can i find free courts records ? helen?

my uncle passed away , i'm taking care of his legal affairs, i have reason to believe he has property in maryland , how do i get free imfo on the internet ? thank you

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: The first thing I'd do is send a letter to the IRS along with a copy of the court documents certifying you as your uncle's executor/agent. Request a transcript of your uncle's tax returns for each of the last 5 years. It will tell you what all of his investments were (both those with profits and losses), all properties that he paid property taxes on and took the deduction for, etc.

The second thing to do is contact the Lost Property office for the State of Maryland and see if your uncle has property in their possession. Any accounts that were inactive too long or other property (like safety deposit box contents) are turned over to the state when they're too old. It's a great place to find old stocks, inactive bank accounts, etc.

Lastly, you can contact the County Treasurer for any county where you think your uncle had property and have them transfer records into your name (again, you'll have to send them an executor's certification from the Probate court).

You might find some real estate records from the Property Tax rolls at the County Treasurer's website. Not every county does it (there is a cost to all that bandwidth that many counties won't expend on records like this). This other place where you can look is the Registrar of Deed's office for the county. Again, not every county does it. But if you don't find that they have searchable databases, you can call and get the info over the phone (it is public record).
