I am looking for a relative that I have never met before. I have very little to work with other than a family name and the year of my Grandfather's death. He is my dad's step brother. How do I go round it?

Vital Records, Birth, Marriage, and Death records will tell a persons parents names. So, start with yourself, and get your parents records. You can get them from the state, county, province, city municipality where the BMD occured. You can find a local one online usually by typing in "VITAL RECORD <location>" at a YAHOO SEARCH. Then just follow their instructions. Here are some sites to help you with that search.
