Question:

I am from the philippines, my surname is Cabana, is it possible that I have Mexican blood?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: While I have to agree that the likelihood is of a Spanish origin for the name, the Philipines were ruled by Spain for about 350 years and a great many people came and went though Manila (not only Spanish but Dutch, Chinese, Japanese - before they closed the country and threw the foreigners out - and others. Spain had a large empire -Mexico was the most highly developed and controlled part of it- and a large bureacracy to run it with some colonial Spanish families living overseas for centuries. There is a story of the Tokugawa shoguns in Japan inviting Mexican silver miners to teach mining techniques in the Japanese mines on Sado island - in the 1605 - 1615 era - and they almost certainly transhipped through Manila. So although a "direct from Spain" Spanish origin name is, I am guessing, about 95% likely, there is also a small chance it "could" have come to the Philipines through Mexico or another part of the Spanish empire. I have heard that Spanish origin families in the Philipines often keep track of their genealogical information so you might actually find a lot of information there if you look.
