1850 census says ohio county is 44th district of Virginia. VA history shows ohio county is in West VA since 1770. trying to track family history. Were there two ohio counties???

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: West Virginia became a state during the Civil War--I believe 1863. Virginia's western counties seceded, became West Virginia, and joined the Union.
