Question:

Online genealogy collaboration -- any suggestions?

I'm trrying pedigreesoft.com, geni.com ... and tools that people would recommend? I need import/export, I need to share access (preferably at a couple levels,) and I need to mark changes made by each person.

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Two of the methods I've read and not seen in action:

Each person has the same free html editor program, same ftp program, username/password to a common site, a specific identifier for the end of each entry (example [CA] would be your cousin who lives in CA), a set day of the week for uploading, and a specific "holding" page (CA updating in progress).

I'd recommend Alleycode, Wise FTP, Rootsweb Free Pages, agreement on id entry codes, and so on.

Next...I know most pages have a coordinator who receives the information via e-mail and updates at a scheduled time. While that is a lot of work for one person, sharing access at a couple of levels is a big hurdle.

ANd, of course, I think of one more:
Those pesky gedcoms that seem to copy each other? Some of those are actually updating each other's information and using rootsweb worldconnect to communicate that data.
