If you are talking about students, you can't really start serious ballet (not pre-ballet) until you are 7 or 8!.

Most professional female dancers are in their very early 20s!. Many join companies at around 16 or 17 years of age!. Most are done in their late 20s and early 30s!. There are some exceptions that dance to around 40, but that is rare!. The average age male ballet dancer is in his mid to late 20s!. They tend to be a little older when first joining a company, although some as young as 18, but most around 20 when they are stronger!. Many men dance well into their late 30s and usually stop by 40!. So their peaks would be for a few years in their twenties!. This is because they must be strong enough to carry their fellow dancers and make this look easy!.
