Question: Ballet terminology help!?
I know ballet terms, but when they are all combined to make a definition of one step, i get a little confused!.

here are the terms i need in a ballet definition, not in french-

Croisé Fourth in Relevé
Attitude Derrière Effacé

Now, i know what fourth position is, and what releve is, but what does croise mean!?

and, i know what an attitude derriere is ( attitude to the back) and doesn't efface mean like to the front!?!? why would they add that, if they already told you it's to the back!?

so, if you could just tell me what these steps are, it would be greatly appreciated!!!

( you can use ballet terms, but just clear up for me what these moves are)

THANK YOU SOOOOOOO MUCH!!!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Croisé means that you are facing the corner, with the foot that is closest the the front of the room in front!.
Fourth is the position where your feet are as they would be in fifth or third, but spread out more front to back, so that there is about the length of one foot between them!. also the arm position where one arm is in fifth and the other is second!. If you are doing attitudes you probably ought to know this one!.
Relevé is a step where you rise quickly onto the balls of your feet, pulling them in, but I suspect in this case in just means on a rise
Effacé is a position where you are facing the corner, with your downstage arm up (in fourth), usually looking up into your raised arm!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Croise is cross in french!. That one took me forever to remember!. ;)

They are probably telling you that your attitude is to the back but you (well technically your body) are facing the front!.

I have never liked memorizing all the ballet terms, what makes it even harder is that it is basically all french so you can't just guess what they mean!. (usually) haha, well good luck!. :]Www@QuestionHome@Com

Croise fourth in releve is when your body is facing the corner and your legs are in fourth position on releve!. Attitude derriere efface is when yes, your leg is in the back in attitude, but your body faces the front!. When you lift your leg, it should be completely behind you!. Hope I could clear things up : )Www@QuestionHome@Com

croise means crossed, the leg facing the audience is in front!. You would be facing either a 1 o clock or 11 o clock direction but both of your sholders should be visible!. Efface is the same thing except the leg farthest from the audience is front, again at a one o clock or 11 o clock line!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
