Ok This is what you do:
1) Go up to her and just talk to her like you two are best friends!.
2) Dont bring the dance up right when u first start talking because you want to make sure that you and the girl are comfortable
3) Once you ae comfortable talking to her and she seems like she is really into the conversation just ask if she is going to the dance!.
4) If she answers with a 'Yes' then just ask her if she's going with someone and if she says 'That she's not going with someone' then just ask her if she wants to go with you!.
5) If she says 'No' that she is not going just be like," Oh ok I was just wondering because I was going and I didn't want to go by myself!.
