Don't put too much pressure on yourself after only one lesson!. It takes time to get the basics down!. You should be able to "feel" from the guy's lead what he wants you to do!. In part it is you who need to be responsive to his signals, but if he signals too late you won't be able to switch your step in time!. So it is not only a question of you, but also whether the man is signaling correctly and in time!.

One way to tell is to dance with the instructor!. If you are still not getting the first move then you can rule out that it is error on the part of the leader!. Just go to class a little early or stay after a little and say that you feel like you are having a problem and you want to try it with them!. Don't be embarassed to ask!. We were all beginners at one point and instructors generally like it when students show a real interest!.

Most important of all is to practice, practice, practice on your own!. The more comfortable you are with the basic steps and the more you learn to hear the beat in the muisc, the faster you will learn and the more relaxed you will be with your partners!. Get a salsa CD and practice the basic step and switching from the basic to the rumba step and then back to the basic again!.

When you get to know some of the people in class, try to find a partner or a small group that would like to practice on their own outside of class!. You can meet at someone's house and go through the moves that you learned in class!. You will find that you will learn to dance twice as fast as the people who only practice during class!.

And last but not least have FUN! Dancing should be fun and should not be something that makes you feel stressed!. Everyone learns in their own time, so enjoy it!Www@QuestionHome@Com

think about transfering your body weight, from one leg to another, and maybe dance with different guys, some are better leaders, maybe practice with the male teacher, he might do the leads stronger, and are you behind him, (slower to react) or ahead of him (backleading) learning to follow!.!.!. ah!.!.!. patienceWww@QuestionHome@Com

Practice!. If you have only had one lesson, give it a chance!Www@QuestionHome@Com
