Question: Is There An Injury That Can Remain Hidden And Only Be Detected By A Doctor!?
Is there a certain kind of injury that could mask itself behind all of the pain that a dancer goes through, that wouldn't be recognized by the dancer, but would only show up through a visit with a doctor!? And this kind of injury wouldn't be tendentious or arthritis or anything like that, but rather an injury that would lead a dancer to have to make a decision whether to keep on dancing or retire!? What, if any, kind of injury would that be!?

If you can help me out, I would love to hear from you!.

Thanks!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The most common "undetected" injury dancers suffer is a stress fracture!. Over time this can be debilitating and if let go for long enough, can end a dancer's career!. Most common place is a stress fracture in the foot or metatarsals!. My best friend who I danced with for many years developed a stress fracture on her shin bone!. By the time it actually started to hinder her dancing it had developed in to 5 stress fractures layered on top of one another!. She continued to dance with it for 2 more years, ignoring the pain and eventually had to stop dancing at the age of 33 as it became too much for her!. After 5 years now she still has a large bump on her shin from the scar tissue build up that remains!. I got lucky, I danced almost entirely injury free for my career, (just a few strains, sprains and muscle tears) but I now suffer from painful arthritis in my toes and hips!. It was still worth it!Www@QuestionHome@Com

i tore my meniscus playing football (knee injury) and did not notice a thing for almost a year!. when i went for my physical the doctor told me i needed an MRI because i lost some range of motion in my knee!. i ended up getting surgery later that week and missed the season!. im sure you could do the same in dance, because it is a plant+turn injuryWww@QuestionHome@Com

OOOH YEAH in ballet my friend,s heel kept hurting for about 2 monthes, and they assumed thshe jsut pulled something!. well turns out she had, but when she actually went 2 the doctor it was a hairline fracture, and she had kept danicing on it so it got worse!Www@QuestionHome@Com

My husband went to the doctor for a different reason and didn't know it, but he had a cracked rib!. I don't think a cracked rib would keep a dancer from dancing though!. Maybe just temporarily!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
