If you're good enough for a professional ballet company such as ABT, they may take you as an apprentice first for their 2nd company, ABT II - It all depends on your talent and ability, most professional ballet dancers don't land their first contract with a company until their early 20's, again depending on how good they are!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

i think the first person to answer is talking about dancing at a STUDIO which is different from a company!.

I started dancing at a studio when i was 5!. the studio had classes in levels creative dance (for little kids) one, two, and three!. Then dance classes one though five!. Then level C and levels B and A were considered company levels!. Once you were asked the join the company you were moved into these levels!. I think the typical age to join the company was 14!? but there are also more Professional companies so your question could apply to those too!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

well, do you mean ballet academy (like to learn) or ballet company (like a job)!? because i would say anywhere from 6-8 ish is prime for academy but even ten can work!.!.!. but anywhere from 16 on up to past college age is fine for a company!. i'm sure as long as you're not so old that you can't dance, you could audition for a company but they probably wouldn't take you!. who knows though!. a lot of principle dancers are in their late 30s early 40s!.!.!. but they've worked their way up the business from a very young age usually!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think the ideal is VERY young!.!. around 4-6!. However I think if you haven't had any past experience and your above the age of about 13-15 then I doubt anywhere will take you on (unless you amazingly turn up the audition and do a piece worthy of swan lake!.!.)Www@QuestionHome@Com
