Question: Is ballet really this hard!?!!?
I've been dancing for almost all my life, and i know that in a company its really hard because they compare you to others!.
What if your good but they don't want to notice you!.
Dosen't that just suck!.
I mean some people tell you that your better than them and that you should have gotten the part but you just don't!.
I swear i hate it!.
Whats hard is that my friends are the ones who got the part!.
So what now i'm left alone!? what am i doing wrong!? My extensions are higher, im stronger!. What you want me to weigh 100 pounds like them!!? i mean im like 5'8 and im 110 pounds im SOOOOO way way underweight and theyr like what 5'4 thats why theyr light!.!.!.!.!. GOD wtf do they want me to do lipo or something!.!.!.!. I hate this!.!.!.
Is anyone feeling something like this!? Maybe not ballet but some other sport!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

You said it yourself: you're 5'8 and all your friends are 5'4!. Height and pointe-work are what the casting business is about!. The artistic director doesn't care about "fair" or about your feelings!. He cares about the look of his production, period!.

He may not want a corps where one head sticks up 4" above the rest!. His danseur may not have the upper body strength to lift an extra 10 pounds without straining (and no, don't diet, just suck it up -- you have an extra 10 pounds of *bone mass* and you don't WANT to lose that!)

Accepting the artistic director's casting decisions is part of the art, just like accepting blisters from your point shoes, long class hours, sore hair follicles and costumes that pinch!. Taking it is how you show you're a pro!.

But you do have some options!. First, understudy everybody!. Attend or observe rehearsals even when you don't have a role!. If a cast member is missing for some rehearsal where you know the part, step up and fill in so that the blocking can still be rehearsed!. Sooner or later someone will be missing for a performance and someone else will say "well, Viola knows the part, let her do it"!.

Second, learn what parts the artistic director DOES like your body type for!. You're in the company, so he must like you for something!. Bigger girls get traveste roles, or character roles, rather than sylphidesque roles!. If that's what you're going to get, then accept them and work at being great in those roles!. Perhaps its nothing to do with how good your technique is- you may need to work on presentation, the thing that tops off a Truly amazing dancer is the face and overall presentation!.
I hate seeing dancers that think they are great and put no effort into their presentation- technique alone does not make a dancer

I know what you mean in ballet my best friend got the part of clara and all my other friends got in flowers they tell me you should understudy this person we don't think they are strong enough for the part so I work so hard since I'm to short for any of the costumes i don't get the partWww@QuestionHome@Com

everything is competitive!.
dont be your harshest critic
you should continue dancing and one day you might have a chance to shine
if you love ballet, keep doing it, keep trying, we are all starsWww@QuestionHome@Com

I have had ALMOST the same experience!.!.!.I got the part of an apprentice on the Nutcracker and I was totally p!.o!.ed but realize that it might not be the talent but the costumes!. The company might not want to make new costumes for every size and shape!. I wouldn't try to become skinnier or anything!. Stay healthy and make lemonade with lemons!.!.!.I know it's hard to understand but there's a reason for everything, see what happens and roll with the punches!. Don't be mad at your friends be happy and exert positive vibes!. When you do this it is good carma and comes back at you even if it takes a while!.!.!. Don't fret and NEVER jump to conclusions!.

Something better may come up! also, they may need lower level dancers!. You may not have done as well either! I'm sure you did but just back track and see, I ALWAYS have trouble with memorization!!
Good Luck out there!!!!!Www@QuestionHome@Com
