There is no set age on when any dancer should go on pointe!.
A recommended age is twelve, which is the minimum age you have to be to begin pointe at my dance studio, because then the bones in most peoples feet are completely developed!.
I began pointe at age 12 after i had danced for nine years!

In your case, you will probably have to wait until you have VERY strong ankles, and wait until you have built up strength in your legs!.

Pointe work takes a lot of knowledge of previous ballet technique!. In other words, you will not be able to just hop up onto pointe and hope for the best when you have just started! As you progress, you will become a stronger and better dancer!. Different people progress at different rates, so if you work really hard, I am sure you will be put on pointe eventually!.

If you are very concerned, you may even want to ask your dance instructor whether you are ready for pointe or not, and ask her what you can to to better prepare yourself for pointe in the future!.

Some exercises you can do are:
1!. TONS of releves! This will strengthen your calves and your ankles!.
2!. Use a resistaband, (it looks like a long piece of rubber) and pointe your foot into the band!. While pulling back on the band in your hands, causing resistance, flex and pointe your foot!.
3!. Once you have a little more experience, ask your dance teacher about prepointe shoes!. They are just like pointe shoes, except they have a soft shank, and are less supportive!. Prepointe shoes are used to strengthen the feet of a dancer who is almost, but not quite, ready for regular pointe shoes!.

Hope you get on pointe soon, good luck, and happy dancing!

i started ballet about 3 years ago, and we had intense training as i am in a performing company!. i am currently the strongest (and best) ballet dancer in our group and i was put on pointe a year ago!. I dance 16 hours a week and am 13 years old!. you will most likely go en pointe in a year or two depending on how dedicated and strong you are!. your flexibilty is a huge factor of how quickly you go en pointe!. good luck!Www@QuestionHome@Com

most people start on pointe around the age of 12 or 13 but if you are new to dancing then probably wait about a year and a half or two years before you begin because your ankles need to be VERY strong or else you can get injured really badly!. I know some people that went on pointe to early and lost there toenails because there ankles were not strong enough!. I am 12 and I am about to begin pointe but I have been dancing for 9 years so I have really strong ankles!. MY dance teacher is going to hold try-outs for pointe so she can make sure that everyone has strong enough ankles before she puts us in pointe shoes!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

i am 14 an i have been on pointe for 3 years now!. like the others said you need strong feet and you at least should wait at least a year and a half!. you can also ask you teacher because she knows your ability and she could give you a good estimate!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
