Question: Does anyone know where you can study Egyptian or Lebanese belly dance near Marietta, GA!?
I've already been taking an American Cabaret class for about a year now, and I would like to study more of the Arabic style!. My only problem is I can't find any local classes!. Does anyone know of any!?

If not, does anyone know of any DVD's that would give me a good foundation to start with!? Www@QuestionHome@Com

Hi Sarah,
my recommendation is two-fold!. Find someone who performs the dance you are looking for (i!.e!. Atlanta has a Belly Dance Troupe http://www!.atlantabellydance!.com/NazeemD!.!.!. They have an amateur group as well and may know someone who teaches or may even teach themselves!.
also, if you do a search on YouTube you will find tons of free videos (i!.e!. http://www!.youtube!.com/results!?search_qu!.!.!. Some show performances and others are actually beginner instructional videos!. I have always found them useful to get me started!.
Hope this helps!. have fun!Www@QuestionHome@Com

If you haven't already I'd suggest you check bellydance directories like the ones at:
http://www!.shira!.net
http://www!.middleeasterndance!.net
http://www!.bhuz!.com
also you could probably get better recommendations from someone on the Bhuz forums than here on Yahoo Answers!. If you still can't find someone teaching the style you want then I'd suggest checking out some of the videos produced by IAMED!. http://www!.bellydance!.org I know they have several DVD's that are specific to Egyptian and at least one is specific to Turkish!. Jillina has a few Egyptian Style DVD's out!. You can also get Raqia Hassan and Nagwa Fouad DVD's (instructionals or old conferences)!. There's plenty out there https://www!.dahlal!.com/default!.aspx!?n=1&!.!.!. Dahlal carries a lot of different instructionals, including lots of Egyptian Style ones!. I would also recommend looking up Egyptian dancers (or lebanese or turkish) on youtube (I mean actual names like "samia gamal" not "Egyptian dancers") to get a better feel for that style!. Try emulating what the do in the video clips and if you tube's just not doing it invest in some Egyptian style performance videos!.
For the most part if you've been taking American Cabaret you don't need foundational instruction you just need to learn the proper accent!. American Cabaret Style is made up of Turkish, Lebanese, and Egyptian styles!. It's all three made into one!. So you just need to learn to pick out what parts belong to what!. The more you watch the different styles the more you will pick up on those differences even without an instructor to point them out!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

American Cabaret style is a mix of Egyptian Turkish and lebanese styles!. You may want to look for a tribal class instead!. It's always a good idea to take different bellydance classes with different instructors!. No 2 teachers teach the same even if it is the same style!. You also may want to look for workshops in your area!.
