Question: Not on pointe, but still doing it at home!?
Hi!.
I haven't been doing ballet very long (almost a year!.Did ballet for a while when I was 3, also, but stopped), but I've heard from many ballet teachers that my ankles are strong!. I got some pointe shoes as a souvenir from The Nutcracker before I started ballet, and so about 3 months ago, I started walking around in them at home!. I can do spins and I feel strong on them!.
Is this okay to do!? I am VERY careful and don't try anything that I think would hurt me!.
ThanksWww@QuestionHome@Com

As much as you want to go en pointe, you SHOULD NOT be en pointe before you are ready! First of all, Pointe Shoes MUST be properly fitted by a PROFESSIONAL! Secondly, if you get them as a souvenir, you don't have proper safety devices for your shoes, such as toe pads, or spacers!. Even if you can go en pointe at home, they are SOUVENIRS, they may not be REAL pointe shoes!. also, you have not had proper training for pointe!. Even if your ankles are strong, thy aren't the only thing that needs to be strong!. You need to make sure you get the proper training BEFORE you go en pointe, or you can cause SERIOUS, PERMANENT damage to your body!. PLEASE wait until your ballet teacher says you are ready to go en pointe, and ONLY go en pointe with your dance instructor around! Www@QuestionHome@Com

STEP AWAY FROM THE SHOES NOW!.

Wearing pointe shoes around the house - especially souvenir shoes, heaven knows what condition those are in - is terrible for your feet!. You have not been fitted and could seriously hurt yourself!.

not only do you run the risk of hurting yourself, you are doing yourself no favors in the long run!. You don't have a teacher watching you and you will teach yourself bad technique and habits that will be SO hard to unlearn when you really do start pointe!. it is infinatly different from regular ballet!.

so please, don't wear the shoes!. ask your teacher if you want to start pointe!.

You really shouldn't be walking around in pointe shoes yet!. I remember when I got my pointe shoes that she told me not to even take them out of the box before my teacher had time to tell me what to do!. So you can tell your teacher that your interested in going en pointe and ask her if you can take some classes to help strengthen your ankles enough to do so!. But it's generally not a good idea to be using pointe shoes before your teacher says you can!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Probably not!. You shouldn't be doing that at all!. But hey, I did the same thing before I went en pointe!. Okay!. Thanks for the additional details!. You really shouldn't be going en pointe!. Wait for your teachers to tell you to!. Stopping is probably a good idea, especially since the shoes don't properly fit you!. If you're anxious to go en pointe, ask your teacher how much longer she thinks you'll need to wait and what you can do to be better prepared for pointe!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I danced for 15 years!. Please be very careful with pointe shoes; I would highly recommend waiting until you are ready for pointe classes at your dance classes!. You really don't want to risk an injury, even if your ankles are strong!. I understand your eagerness, believe me, and the reason I'm advising you to wait is simply for your own good!. It's important to learn proper techniques, because if you injure yourself you won't be very happy!. I hope you keep dancing and enjoy it as much as I did! :)Www@QuestionHome@Com

YIKES!!! it might not hurt now but doing this can cause long term damage!. Being en pointe is putting the weight of three elephants on your ankles!. I would stop now before its to late !.!.!.!. are the even properly fit!? Darling stop now BELIEVE ME!Www@QuestionHome@Com
