Question: Can Ballet (not pointe) damage your feet/body!?
Im 13 and starting dancing soon, contemporary and ballet!. Firstly i only wanted to do contemporary but i read that ballet makes you more stronger, faster and mor balanced, is this true!?

Anyway, back to my question, can Ballet damage you body/feet!? Ive looked around yahoo, but everyone asks if pointe can damage, not just ballet!. And, btw, i dont think ill go onto pointe, im planning to stop ballet when my teacher tells my to start pointe (which i know will be a while, as i am a very uncooradinated person, but i can work on that) and ill continue with contemporary :)

THANKS!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Ballet is about training every muscle and using it properly to attain a shape, line, and movement!. It is not a natural movement style the body is used to!. The hips are turned out and there is a lot of stretching and jumping!.

That being said, there are tons of things that can go wrong!. If you are getting the wrong training or if the teacher is not meticulous to details, the chance of injury is huge!.

Improper turnout or improper use of the plie when jumping can cause serious knee problems!. Overstretching the hips can damage the hips and may require surgery!. Rolling in on the ankles or rolling out can cause ankle injuries!. Tendinitis is common and so are stress fractures!.

If you want to do contemporary ballet, you must start with classical!. All contemporary is based on the things you will learn in classical ballet classes!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Any kind of strenuous physical activity (professional athletes etc!.) has the potential to damage your body!. You're constantly using your body and pushing it to the limit!. The benefits of dancing (strength, balance etc!.) are existent, but you can push yourself too hard if you get into competitive ballet and so on!. Your back and knees are what's at risk, a former ballet teacher had basically wrecked her back from all of the jarring and stress she put on it over the years!. also, "tucking under" isn't considered "the right way" mechanically to bend (I had to relearn not to in physical therapy)!. You just do a lot of things that aren't necessarily in tune with keeping your body safe!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well, ballet is a safe dance!. However, you must make sure that you don't push yourself to doing things that you are not ready for, and most of all STRETCH BEFORE DOING ANYTHING If you don't stretch you may tear muscles, like I have done myself, not fun!. But no, ballet can not injure your body if you do it correctly

And yes, ballet can make you stronger with enough training, and have great balance if you practice!. Just have fun with it, because dancing is diffently my favourite exercise and it's great for you! Www@QuestionHome@Com

im am unaware of the terminology that you are useing, but i will give you a answer that i have learned first hand!.

if you are a ballet dancer and spend much time on your toes you will eventally almost cripple yourself by disforming your small bone structure right above the toes and the toes themselves!. other then the toe dancing ballet is a GREAT activity for building grace strength endurance and a fit healthy body as well as developing EXCELLENT BALLANCEWww@QuestionHome@Com

I'm 20 years old and I have been a dancer since I could walk!.!.haha
Ballet is perfect for grace, balance and psture!. And ballet wont hurt or damage your feet at all!. But in order to get strength and actually bulid muscel, you will have to go on pointe!. But most instructors will allow you to go on releve (on your balls of you feet) without being on pointe!.!.if u have any other questions!.!.just ask!! :D Good luck!.!.ballet is alot of fun!.!.but takes years to master!!Www@QuestionHome@Com

It can, but that's only because you are jumping and landing without shoes on!. It can really hurt if you land wrong and could lead to injuries!. Get ready by jumping on a semi-firm but not hard mat to get your feet stronger and ready for the stress!. You should be fine thoughWww@QuestionHome@Com

welllll, ok!.!.!. ballet is very unnatural!. your body was definitely not made to turn out and bend and kick and what not in all those ways!. however, ballet is beautiful!. how many people do you know with a passion who wont suffer for their art!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well!.!.!.yes and no!.

If you don't learn the correct training, warm up right you can injure yourself!. Just don't force anything, just work on it slowly!.!.like turn out etc!.
