Question: Is pointe really that bad!?
I went to buy regular ballet slippers and me mom asked the girl that worked there about pointe and she says she used to do it but stopped!. Her friend does it and her toenails fall off every year and she has broken her ankles twice! Is it really that horrible!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

It really depends how long you are doing it!. For example someone who dances once a week will have different feet problems than someone in american ballet theater!. Then more you dance the worse your feet are!. When you do start pointe you wont be dancing for hours so your feet wont be that bad!. Although people say they get alot of blisters when breaking in their shoes!. (that was never a problem for me)!. also they type of toe pads you use will affect your feet, the less you use the harder it is on your feet!. But as you get more advanced you will get more blisters, bruised toenails, things like that, because you will be dancing en pointe longer and you will be doing more difficult stuff!. But dont worry about it you will get use to it, although pointe is hard im sure when you do start it you will love it!! and its not that horrible!!Www@QuestionHome@Com

My sister is 20 and in college for dance!. There are a few things that are hard about it!. Yes, your toes do bleed a lot and toenails will fall off!. My sister lost another one just last week!. As for ankles, if you have strong legs and ankles and use good shoes, you should be okay, just be careful!. Pointe can be very expensive however!. Shoes are generally $75-$150!. My sister buys her shoes 6 at a time and goes through them very quickly!. She started with a brand new pair and was on pointe in classes for 6 hours and ruined her shoes and needed a new pair!. Just watch out because it can be dangerous to dance in them if they are broken!. If you are commited to it, work hard and you will do great!. Good luck!Www@QuestionHome@Com

I've been doing pointe for about 4 years now!. It's hard to build up your ankle strength and yes your toes and toenails take a beating too but if you really love it, go for it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
