Question: How to do a good triple turn!?
I have been dancing for five years now (at least 10 hours per week) in this intensive program!. I was able to do triple turns over the summer but for some reason when I got back from camp I couldn't!. I can still do consistent doubles!.

this is what happens:
I do two turns but when it comes time for the third I get either thrown off balance or put my foot down too soon!. am i just so worried about the turn that I am losing all technique!? do you have any suggestions on how to fix this!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

i had a similar issue myself, and here's what i did!. when your turning keep imagining yourself being pulled upwards!. just like when your in a balance position, pulling your body to it's absolute height helps your stability and keeps the momentum consistent!. also, i realized i would start to sink into my supporting leg or sometimes cave in to my lifted leg!. the whole upward stance will assist that also!. your arm positions may be a thought, make sure they are neither to high or low, and that your are not using your arms to propel yourself because that will cause you to lose balance!. i hope this was helpful, it helped me!. i know how aggravating it can be so i wish you all the best!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Don't think!. When you start thinking too much about that third turn you lose your focus on your balance, spot, ect!. Just dance it!.

Practice just in a balance and see how long you can hold it (and figure 2 counts for each turn so: prepare 1-2, turn 3-4, 5-6, & 7-8)!. And just keep practicing!. I'm sure the same thing happened when you started turns, and then again when you started doubles!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

you might be pushing too hard to the side or maybe you aren't pushing hard enough!.
try watching a few of these videos:

id work on your spotting!. that is what keeps you in balance!. the better you are at spotting the more turns you will be able to do!. and also maybe try a different prep!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Omg, I totally understand!. Sometimes I just can't do multiple pirouettes for some reason!. Maybe it's just lack of practice or muscle memory loss!. Don't worry though, I'm sure you'll be able to get your skills back! (=

From lots of experience and many times of frustration, I've found that these tips usually help me out on pirouettes and turns:

- *Keep your supporting leg's knee straight
- Make sure your arm posture is correct
- Do a full releve (your supporting foot's heel needs to be up as high as possible)
- Spot your head
- Keep your body uplifted
- Practice just pase's (a pirouette balance without turning)
- **Be CONFIDENT!!!!!!!

*Keeping your knee straight is REALLY important!. Without a straight knee, you won't get very far because the supporting leg is weak!. I amazed myself a while ago because I could suddenly do really nice double pirouettes, and I realized that much of the success was all thanks to a straight knee!. (=

**Being confident might not sound like it would help that much, but trust me, it DOES! If you tell yourself that you can do it, eventually you'll be able to! I discovered the magic of confidence numerous times during dance classes!. (x So that also means not to stress out too much when you do it!. Don't think "Why can't I do it!?! I need to get it this time!" because that just makes it harder!. Or at least for me!. But yeah, just keep your head up (not literally, or it'll throw you off) and tell yourself you can do it!. Because!.!. you really can! (=

Best of luck! Remember, practice (and LOTS of it) makes perfect!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
