After I graduate from college, I want to own a dance studio!. Right now I'm looking for colleges!. Are there any colleges that offer lots of classes in Pointe, Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Hip Hop, and Lyrical!? Thank you!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
A college dance program that offers lots of dance is typically a BFA program (Bachelor of Fine Arts) that is structured in the conservatory style!. There are some exceptions, but in most cases, the liberal arts-based programs that offer a BA (Bachelor of Arts) in dance require you to take at least 50% of your credits in liberal arts (like science, math, English, history, etc)!. A BFA program, in contrast, will require 30% or less of your degree to be liberal arts classes!.

The vast majority of the BFA programs are modern based - a style which you didn't even mention!. They all offer ballet in equal or almost equal proportions in terms of classes, but their performances are mostly modern!. These programs treat pointe and jazz as electives with limited class offerings!. Not all of these programs offer tap as an elective and it's highly unlikely to even see hip hop or lyrical offered as their own class!. Sometimes the jazz classes will roll them into their curriculum!.

There are a handful of triple-emphasis programs that offer an equal amount of ballet, modern and jazz, along with some tap offerings, but those programs are becoming increasingly popular and harder to get into!. Some require their dance majors to pick a specialty area by their junior year (so they can't stay equally focused), while others require less specialization!. The triple-emphasis programs that I know of are these:

Chapman University
Marymount Manhattan College
Muhlenberg College
Point Park University
Southern Methodist University
Texas Christian University
University of Arizona
University of the Arts

Muhlenberg is the exception in the above list in offering a full sequence in tap classes, from beginning to advanced!. Chapman offers a couple of electives in hip hop and ballroom!.

There is another unique college program that offers a triple emphasis in ballet, jazz and tap - Oklahoma City University - that I would especially recommend that you look into!.

They offer a Pedagogy focus in ballet, jazz and tap, which is just what you'd need if you want to own a dance studio!. The whole focus of their program is on dance as an entertainment business!. Be sure to look into their one-day High School Dance Intensive workshops!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
