Question: I am really interested in studying dance!. what universities in california have a decent dance program!? !?
I am not that great!. I mean I'm pretty decent when it comes to modern, but ballet isn't really my thing!. I'm only a junior so I have a lot of time to get better!.But I really love dancing and I would love to pursue this after high school!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Of the college dance programs in California, it's true that UC Irvine and CalArts are the most recommended!. Other recommended programs include the following:

CSU Long Beach
San Diego State University
San Francisco State University
UC Berkeley
UCLA
UC Santa Barbara
CSU Fresno
CSU Fullerton
Chapman University
San Jose State University
UC Riverside
UC San Diego

Those come from my copy of "The Performing Arts Major's College Guide" which is now a bit outdated:
http://www!.amazon!.com/Performing-Arts-Co!.!.!.

You might want to pick up a new edition by the same editor, "Peterson's College Guide for Performing Arts Majors 2008" when it becomes available:
http://www!.amazon!.com/Petersons-College-!.!.!.

also buy the print edition of the Dance Magazine College Guide:
http://dancemedia!.k-online!.biz/cgi-bin/D!.!.!.

From my own connections, another dynamic and innovative program is the partnership BFA program between the LINES Ballet company and Dominican University of California:

I'd also like to point out that you really don't have a lot of time to get better!. One year is a small amount of time in relation to the many years of training most dance students have had before attending programs like CalArts!. But I strongly encourage you to use as many of your vacations days during this school year, and especially your spring break, to go visit as many college programs as you can!. This will help you to narrow down which programs you should apply and audition for one year from now!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

UC Irvine I think has a strong dancing program!. Cal Institute of the Arts as well!. Pretty much any conservatory!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
